Periodic abstinence during the fertile days is a method of birth control involving periods of sexual abstinence, which may result in unplanned pregnancies. Lent, the season of self-denial, is the ideal time to consider the challenges of marital abstinence (or continence).

Pope John Paul II gently puts abstinence into perspective and, in his gentle and loving words, explains why it can be so difficult. The book Love. Periodic abstinence: Also known as fertility awareness, natural family planning, and the rhythm method, this approach entails not having sexual intercourse on the days of a woman's menstrual cycle when she could become pregnant or using a barrier method (such as a condom, the diaphragm or a cervical cap) for birth control on those days.

Intimacy in Marriage. When we look at these verses isolated from the meaning of sex and a theology of the body, the apostle seems to be saying to Christian couples: “More sex.

More sex. More sex!” But this is not the only thing he says. The sexual abstinence part. Sexual abstinence or sexual restraint is the practice of refraining from some or all aspects of sexual activity for medical, psychological, legal, social, financial, philosophical, moral, or religious reasons.

Asexuality is distinct from sexual abstinence; and celibacy is sexual abstinence generally motivated by factors such as an individual's personal or religious beliefs. When we got married, we thought there would never be a time that we'd need to abstain.

Boy, were we wrong. We're sharing some of our thoughts and experiences with abstinence in marriage. Well the truth is, NFP stinks. And while hate may be too strong a word, NFP is anything but blissful.

It’s abstinence. In marriage. To be perfectly real and honest, NFP has not lead to blissful meadow-dancing, but rather to hurt feelings, grumpiness, pouting, and temper tantrums (Don’t worry. The medical profession and the public at large don't see that they are equivalent.

The consequences of obesity (the chief consequence of food addiction) constitute the fastest-growing, and soon the gravest, threat to public health. Obesity is suicide on lay-away: It has plenty of time to degrade quality.

Through the years thoughtful Christians have recognized the value of periods of abstinence within marriage. Some couples argue that NFP (i.e., abstinence) has the potential to ruin marriages. While acknowledging and being sensitive to the very real struggle a lot, and even most, couples face, the simple fact is, if you experience NFP as “ruining your marriage,” you have bigger problems than NFP.By Alice Holoubek, Published on 11/01/61Author: Alice Holoubek. The contraception advocate seeking to show the moral equivalence of contraception and periodic abstinence fails to distinguish between the two sorts of intentions and claims fallaciously that the "acts chosen" (the intention to contracept and the intention to abstain during fertile times) by contraceptors and by periodic abstainers are the same.
